ABOUT ME

Liz Zappile

MA, LPC, NCC, MT-BC (she/her)

Hi! My name is Liz Zappile (zuh-pilly) and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of NJ. I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

I was born in NJ and grew up in Morris county NJ. I received my Bachelor’s of Music degree with a concentration in Music Therapy from Radford University, Virginia in 2015. I did my internship at Eastern State Psychiatric Hospital in Williamsburg Virginia, where my interest in mental health began. I worked as a board-certified music therapist for four years working primarily with older adults who had neurocognitive disorders such as Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

After receiving my Master’s of Arts degree in mental health counseling from Caldwell University in 2019, I worked in a partial care/IOP drug/alcohol rehab helping adults struggling with addiction. During the pandemic, I transitioned to working in outpatient counseling where I helped adults with a variety of mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.

Currently, I am the Mental Health Clinician at Saint Elizabeth University in Morristown, NJ between August and May. During the summer months I am solely in private practice. One of my career goals is to write a self-help book focusing on men’s mental health. Along with my integrative approach to therapy, I use a lot of metaphor, humor, and empathy to help give clients a relaxed experience.

When I am not in the office, I am usually doing a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, skiing, gardening, or paddle-boarding with my dog. I love to explore, travel, cook and try new foods. I am passionate about animals, the arts, and nature.

My approach to therapy

  • CBT

Cognitive behavioral therapy is based on the idea that thoughts, behaviors, and how others make us feel are all closely related and affect our well-being.

  • DBT

Dialectical behavioral therapy helps clients develop skills to understand, accept, and manage difficult feelings, and to cope with life's ups and downs. These skills include mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

  • SFBT

Solution-focused brief therapy is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems.
